Scottish experts are calling for a new approach to weight management to avert what they say is a looming tidal wave of obesity.
The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network Working Party on Obesity has called for a revolution in the way that the public and doctors view the trial of losing weight. The bulky should not be encouraged to reduce to an ideal svelte weight. Instead the aims should be, firstly, not to put on more weight and, secondly, to lose modest amounts in short dieting sessions followed by a period of weight maintenance to allow the body to stabilise its energy use.
