“Compassion, resourcefulness, boundless energy and perserverance” are the essential personal qualities that all doctors must have, according to the latest edition of the BMA publication Becoming a Doctor, which is aimed at applicants to medical school. As well as advice for mature, graduate, and overseas applicants, it summarises entry requirements and admission office addresses for all the schools. None accepts less than three B grades at A level, and three - Cambridge, Oxford, and St George's, London - demand three A grades. Becoming a Doctor is available free from the Information Officer, Public Affairs Division, BMA House, Tavistock Square, London, WC1H 9JP.
