Norway compensates lobotomy victims

The Norwegian health department has offered compensation to all patients who have had a lobotomy in Norway in the past. Each person will receive Kr100 000 (£10 000) according to the decision taken by the Norwegian parliament on 20 August.

The sum is independent of the presence or severity of disability arising from surgery. It will be paid in addition to any benefits that patients may already be receiving as a result of such disability. A spokesperson for the ministry explained that the decision …
