EDITOR,—Elizabeth H Price and Helen Kaye Little voice concern about the “considerable pressure” that may be exerted on women to use hormone replacement therapy.1 The perceived risks and benefits should be fully discussed with each woman so that she can make an informed choice. Whether a doctor promotes the use of such treatment for asymptomatic women is likely to depend on his or her philosophical view of the menopause as either a physiological or a pathological state.
