Of the 10 million Britons depending on income support from the state, those in the poorest health are likely to experience the longest periods receiving benefit. A new survey for the Department of Social Security shows that nearly half (45%) of the 1020 respondents receiving income support reported a long term health problem or disability, compared with 36% of the British population as a whole.
