Computers prescribed to French doctors

All French doctors will receive Fr7000 (£920; $1380) to computerise their offices and to facilitate the electronic processing of fees and prescriptions and, gradually, patients' medical records. The computerisation, decreed by a government ordinance to reduce the administrative costs of health care, should be completed by the end of 1998.
