    It had been a busy but gratifying year. In accordance with the desires of the new NHS trust we had laboured long and hard. Our acute geriatric unit of 96 beds had admitted a record 3500 patients that year and standards had been maintained even though it had been necessary to put some patients in surgical wards during the winter. We eagerly awaited the official analysis of performance in the hope of securing increased funding based on the improvement in performance.
