Israeli hospital patients gain right to vote: For the first time in Israel's history, hospital patients will be able to vote for the prime minister and members of Knesset (parliament) thanks to a private member's bill that became law last month as the country went to the polls. Originally only those presenting themselves at polling stations were able to vote, but this was later amended. Prison inmates were given the vote in 1992.
