Malaria is spreading in Azerbaijan: A quarter of a century after it was nearly eradicated in Azerbaijan, malaria has spread to two thirds of the country. The World Health Organisation reports a 120-fold increase in reported cases, from 23 in 1993 to 2802 in 1995. The main cause is the influx of large numbers of displaced people with poor living conditions.
