The BMA and the Law Society last week issued a guide plotting a path for doctors and lawyers through the minefield of assessing an individual's mental capacity. It covers a range of issues including ability to consent to a sexual relationship, to refuse or consent to medical treatment or taking part in research, and even to vote.
