Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users
to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response
is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual
response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the
browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published
online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed.
Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles.
The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being
wilfully misrepresented as published articles or when it is brought to our
attention that a response spreads misinformation.
From March 2022, the word limit for rapid responses will be 600 words not
including references and author details. We will no longer post responses
that exceed this limit.
The word limit for letters selected from posted responses remains 300 words.
Alas !!! ...The Privy Council will no longer be hearing GMC
appeals(...Weep !!! ...Weep !!! ...Weep!!!).
Any aggreived Doctor will now have to challenge the GMC in
Court...assuming that he (or she) is lucky enough to still be in active
human service , by the time that the 'tippy-toes' Charity Commission
eventually allows the matter to go to Court (in the very first place).
The past few weeks however, have seen a massive power shift silently
occur : The omnipotent Council for the Regulation of Healthcare
Professionals (CRHP) has since been born.(And the wee little blessed URL
is http://www.CRHP.org.uk)
The CRHP is a 'SuperCouncil' (or do I say 'PolyCouncil'...(No
disrespect to the PolyPill) ; which somehow daintily regulates the
intricate affairs of 9 diverse Statutory Professional Councils (the GMC
merely being just one of them)...
But the CRHP has one fundamental flaw : The CRHP cannot (at present)
reverse any illegal or unfounded actions by the General Medical Council
(et al)...but ironically, the CRHP can swiftly apply for the High Courts
to strike off any Doctor who was (for example) , given only a 'dodgy'
formal reprimand at GMC level.
The GMC can (however) be 'forced' by the CRHP , to change any of it's
outmoded , illegal and secretive practices...provided that the House of
Commons gleefully joins foces with the House of Lords to fully support the
CRHP; if the CRHP deems such modifications as necessary.
But don't hold your breath just yet...as the changes may not come
when you need them most...and even when they do, they may not be exactly
what you may have been waiting for.
