    Although received pronunciation—once de rigueur among serious broadcasters—has made way for regional accents (on the whole a welcome change), it is still to be heard. One of its best known exponents is Paul Vaughan, familiar as the voice-over on Horizon and as a presenter of Radio 4's Kaleidoscope and Radio 3's Record Review. It is therefore surprising that this volume of autobiography is more about medicine than broadcasting.
