EDITOR,--N Smith and colleagues highlight some weaknesses in the Read codes.1 Unfortunately, it is not clear to casual readers that the criticism is valid only for the 4 byte and 5 byte sets of version 2. Version 3 has been available for the past 12 months and addresses these limitations.
