US issues warning on nifedipine: The US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has warned that nifedipine should be “used with great caution, if at all” after a meta-analysis published in Circulation said that patients on high doses had increased risk of death. Over 87 million prescriptions were written last year for the drug, which is used to treat hypertension and angina.
