HIV virus does cause AIDS, research shows

A study of the death rates among patients with haemophilia in Britain between 1977 and 1992 provides clear evidence that the human immunodeficiency virus causes AIDS. Researchers in Oxford, writing in the 7 September issue of Nature, show that the large increase in deaths of patients with haemophilia since the mid-1980s is due entirely to HIV. Dr Sarah Darby of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Cancer Epidemiology Unit in Oxford says that the effects of HIV infection on deaths among patients with haemophilia have been “specific and enormous.” She says that the study …
