Woman compensated for removal of ovaries

    A woman has won pounds sterling35 000 in an out of court settlement after suing a British gynaecologist, John Studd, for assault for removing her ovaries without her consent. The settlement, for Jacqueline Bartley, a 36 year old teacher from south London, followed a High Court ruling that she was entitled to judgment for “battery and negligence for unlawful removal of her ovaries.”

    Mr Studd, a consultant gynaecologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital with a private practice in Harley Street, had admitted negligence and acting without consent but denied assault. …
