There is a man who advertises regularly in the Sunday papers for people wishing to earn large sums of money writing articles for magazines. Several groups of aspiring medical journalists have chosen to give me a free meal rather than buy his book, and, as a columnist for several magazines, I have faced packed audiences eager to glean the secrets of my purportedly lucrative trade. My listeners are, of course, self selecting, but to a man and woman they claim to be sitting on reams of unpublished articles, and, more often than not, on mounting piles of rejection slips.
