An American doctor was due to report to a prison in New York today (Saturday) to begin serving a sentence for “reckless endangerment” that resulted in the death of a patient in a nursing home.
Dr Gerald Einaugler, an internist in New York City, was convicted in 1993 and sentenced to spend 52 weekends at Rikers Island prison. His conviction in a criminal court was described by experts as “very unusual.”
