A blood test to screen for the fragile X syndrome is now available and should be offered to all those at risk, concludes a study in the January issue of Archives of Disease in Childhood (1995;72:33–7). The authors recommend that schoolchildren with learning difficulties should be screened and that the test should then be offered to the families of children found to carry the gene for the syndrome.
