Given its subject matter, Simon Knowles's description of the pregnancy loss roadshow (p 1705) seemed an obvious choice for Christmas. Its visual references — to photographs, hand and foot prints, and identity bracelets — suggested that it might also provide the basis for this year's cover.
I saw Meg Campbell's etchings at an exhibition called “Reclaiming the Madonna: Artists as Mothers.” They came out of a joint residency at the Princess Anne Maternity Hospital, Southampton, with poet Fiona Sampson.
