This is a true story and is reproduced with the patient's permission.
They moved into our road last year. Within a week our husbands were jogging together. My wife runs as well, he said. Mine too. He agreed to send her round that evening to train with me.
What was she like, I wanted to know. What was her marathon time? Two hours something - he couldn't remember. What? But she had had a baby, and her thyroid was playing up, apparently, so she'd probably be about my speed.
She stood on the doorstep, grinning and shivering. “Hi, I'm Anne.”
