    Had we but known it, they had always been an odd couple. Brought together by circumstance and on the basis of a profound misunderstanding, they were perhaps destined for trouble. Though in their own way they seemed to be trying to make the most of it, their relationship was brief and unhappy and their eventual parting a dramatic one which caused much grief and disruption. Sad though it was, we all learned a lot from it.

    The profound misunderstanding was one concerning sex. As often happens, it did not surface immediately. When it did it was clear that a grave mistake had been made and - again, as often happens - there was little that could be done.
