The international dispute over the discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) seems to have ended last week. Health agencies from the United States and France jointly announced a patent agreement that will give the French half of the royalties that are made from the use of HIV antibody tests.
The agreement, said sources at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), marks the conclusion of the 10 year debate over who truly discovered HIV as the infectious agent that causes AIDS.
