The European Union (EU) is moving into health promotion as part of its new public health strategy under powers set out in the Maastricht Treaty. The basis of the new five year programme devised by the European Commission after consultation with the medical profession, international organisations, and national authorities is a 43 page document sent this month to EU governments and the European parliament for their approval.
