I endorse the policy followed by Dr Finfer and his team. The survival of one of the patients shows that both received excellent care. The doctors could have given transfusions to both patients without their knowledge while they were anaesthetised, but legally this would have been an assault.
The trauma related injury severity score predicted a 99% chance of survival, but this calculation assumes the immediate availability of a limitless supply …
