There are widespread discrepancies in the performance of both community services and hospitals in England and Wales, according to an Audit Commission report, Trusting in the Future. The commission says that clinical productivity varies by up to 50% between similar providers, with much of this variation resulting directly from the way in which services are organised and managed.
