    EDITOR, - Linda Beecham notes that the NHS Management Executive does not believe that career grade doctors will be bound by the European Union's directive on the organisation of working time.1 The management executive believes that consultants determine their own working patterns and would therefore be covered by one of the derogations written into the directive.
