![]() Bristol, 23/09/96 | There is always something reassuring about a doctor who speaks on the radio or television with a Scottish accent. Sandy Macara hails from the west of Scotland and has devoted his life to community medicine and public health, with the result that he has a wider interest in medicine than most family doctors or hospital specialists. Nowhere has this concern been seen better than in his role as chairman of council of the BMA, where he has been an outspoken and effective advocate for the National Health Service.
