![]() Belfast, 18/07/95 | His background should make Ian Fraser an Ulsterman through and through, yet he is a doctor dedicated to the whole of Ireland. As a young army surgeon he was chosen to pilot important trials of penicillin for battle wounds in Italy. In civilian life he has held many important posts in the province, particularly as senior surgeon at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Belfast. Throughout his long career, however, he has always insisted that, whatever the political differences, medicine has no frontiers, and he has ensured that doctors in Ireland on both sides of the border stay in close contact. | |
