![]() St Catharine's College, Cambridge, 07/09/96 | Perhaps the best president of any of the medical royal colleges since the war, Terence English has achieved his results through efficiency, patience, and charm. He waited until the difficult questions over the ethical aspects of heart and lung transplantation had been answered before producing outstanding results from the operations in his unit at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. And as president of the Royal College of Surgeons he implemented controversial plans for surgeons to keep up to date and to audit their own results. He is currently master of St Catharine's College, Cambridge. Links to the BMJ archive Personal paper: Medicine in the 1990s needs a team approach by Terence English | |
