Re: Proud of the BMA

I have been a member of both the BMA and of the Labour Party for well over 30 years - but I never thought I would be proud to be a member of the BMA. But now the BMA conference has not only voted overwhelmingly to oppose the Government's increasingly privatised NHS market, but also to oppose prescription charges - in other words, to oppose the two key causes of inequalities in UK health care. For once, we are truly acting in the name of the people we serve.

While I sincerely hope that a future Labour Party will regain its core values and reject its current neoliberal madness, all I can say for now is: Power to the BMA! I am proud to be a member!

Best wishes, Alex Scott-Samuel
