I read your article on military trauma with interest and agree that we civilian doctors have a lot to learn from the military. I have attended the Definitive trauma skills course mentioned in your article and found the hardcore case scenarios fascinating. I am eager to keep my ability to manage trauma up to scratch, however, I feel the types of trauma we are faced with in this country are very different to the penetrating and blast injuries encountered in war. We civilian doctors are also not trained in avoidance of becoming a casualty ourselves, which I would argue, is the most serious sequelae of sending us out to the frontline.
