Re: A different perspective

The TRIP Database (www.tripdatabase.com) is a free clinical search engine that focuses on 'evidence based' material. We have included Cochrane as one of the resources we search. In response to the above article we analysed which Cochrane reviews were most popular by users of our site. TRIP is well used with over a million searches per month, it has a 70:30 split in clinician:patient usage and its major usage comes from English-language countries.

For 2007 Cochrane accounted for 2.6% of all articles viewed from the TRIP Database. The top ten results being:

1) Prevention and treatment of postpartum hypertension

2) Cephalic version by moxibustion for breech presentation

3) Rehabilitation for distal radial fractures in adults

4) Preoperative hair removal to reduce surgical site infection

5) Cranberries for preventing urinary tract infections

6) Vaginal misoprostol for cervical ripening and induction of labour

7) Screening for breast cancer with mammography

8) Glucosamine therapy for treating osteoarthritis

9) Developmental care for promoting development and preventing morbidity in preterm infants

10) Antibiotics for sore throat

The lack of overlap is interesting, perhaps explained by the wider range of 'evidence based' articles in TRIP (users can view other evidence based material over Cochrane) and our wider reach.
