I am surprised that there have been no responses to this editorial, but perhaps I shouldn't be: Tony Delamothe's wry editorials about this topic have been well considered and sensible. This paragraph is especially worth noting: In his response to the Tooke report, the secretary of state accounts for the pace of implementation by "the need for policy development and implementation to be evidence based [sic], and for change to be implemented only after careful testing [sic] and following co-production [sic] with professional and other key stakeholders." As Delamothe adds, to end the paragraph: It will be fascinating to see whether the government holds to these tenets over the implementation of Lord Darzi’s recommendations. Indeed it will. It is interesting that the 'secretary of state accounts for the pace of implementation by "the need for policy development and implementation to be evidence based, and for change to be implemented only after careful testing and following co-production with professional and other key stakeholders.' Does the secretary of state imply by evidence the type that imposes a bare below elbows policy with zero evidence or does it mean the type of evidence used to implement and force through a computerised employment scheme. If it does then I suspect we have reached that level of evidence already! Competing interests: None declared |
