I do not feel the advice deters from patient autonomy. It is simply advice, and the pregnant mother can decide to take the advice, or not take it.

With the combination of increased binge drinking, and increased drinking in middle aged people in the U.K. widely publicised in the news, plus as explained in the article, the ability of women to use home measures, the message sends a clear and safe message to women, which cannot be misinterpreted, and this can only be good news for patients which is the main thing.
