I wonder if the RCPCH has considered the possibility that an apology from Professors Meadow and Southall for the enormous mistakes they’ve made would help to increase the confidence of doctors in the field of child protection work. A public apology could defray the hostility towards paediatricians and help restore some trust in a very damaged medical profession. Morale and confidence are low. It is time that paediatricians did something more positive to raise them. Competing interests: None declared
