Louis Lasagna M.D., Sc.D. was my tutor in clinical pharmacology. During 1980-82 my family and I had a memorable very good time being with him on his program for clinical pharmacology, at The University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry, Clinical Pharmacology Group, Rochester, NY, US. I have no words to write my sadness. His last mail was 20 June 03. I have been very fortunate to be besides him learning in depth from his personal, deep and wide approach the Clinical Pharmacology. I was in his group as Visiting Professor, Clinical Pharmacology Fellow, the only Spaniard who had such wonderful experience. He said that I was the only scholar who during his training period edited a book in clinical pharmacology (Clinical and Social Pharmacology. Postmarketing Period. J.L. Alloza (Ed) Editio Cantor Aulendorf, Germany, 1985). In 1998 my University, The University of Alcalá invested him as “Doctor Honoris Causa”. His “Lecture”, as usual, was exciting and excellent. My “Laudatio” with details of his immense contributions, plenty of the many medical/group memories such as world wide friends and fellows, was also an approach to link the Tufts Center for Drug Development and the Alcala Project (a Clinical Pharmacology Unit settled in a private Hospital: Alcala Clinical Pharmacology Project for Drug Resarch and Development; founded in 2000). Lou Lasagna was for his disciples much more than a tutor, he was an exciting human being with so many values that impressed me for all of my live. God bless him!!! I noted the obituary of Louis Lasagna in the BMJ of 6th September 2003. Years ago, when doing clinical research, I was told about "Lasagna's Law" which stated "In clinical research the prevalence of any disease falls to about 10% of what you thought it was the day you start to look for cases for your study" Did he really say this?.
