Kurt Semm's obituarist (BMJ 16 August 2003) names Palmer as an
American
surgeon. Raoul Palmer in fact was a great French gynaecologist who taught
most of the world's tubal surgeons before the advent of IVF. His
workplace,
life and love were Paris.
I had the honour to be present, in the 1960's, at a dinner in a small inn
in
the Black Forest which Hans Frangenheim gave for Raoul Palmer and Patrick
Steptoe - the three great pioneers of laparoscopy, all Europeans.
