COMMENTS:

I am in complete agreement with Nick C Bradley (GP) who wrote (letters: 12 July) to suggest that the BMJ publish regular reports about 'Pharmaceutical-driven Research Offering Specious Evidence' (PROSE).

As evidenced by the recent BMJ issue, dedicated entirely to the somewhat uncomfortable and ambivalent relationship that we professionals have with the pharmaceutical companies - it behoves the BMJ to be pro-active in providing clear, concise, unbiased, evidence-based information about current drugs (particularly the new and very expensive 'copycats') and their relative clinical effectiveness.

POEM (Patient-Oriented Evidence that Matters) has proved to be a very useful and effective way of communicating clinical information relevant to our daily work, and I am sure that PROSE would be similarly welcomed.

I do hope that the BMJ will consider Dr Bradley's suggestion seriously, and take it forward.
