Re: Giving Due Credit

David Spurgeon's news article was correct in its thrust, but there are a couple of points that need clarification. While Physicians for a Smoke-Free Canada proudly joined with the Non-Smokers' Rights Association (NSRA) in calling for a return of the donation from Imperial Tobacco, it was NSRA alone that actually paid for the advertisement in the University of Toronto students' newspaper and originally raised concerns about the donation in November. Physicians for a Smoke-Free Canada participated in the latest news conference in order to show solidarity with NSRA and to emphasize to the University the widespread nature of the outrage caused by their accepting the donation.

We hope that the University of Toronto puts this donation to the Corporate Social Responsibility test and understands that they need to return the money and set up an ethical screen so that such lapses in judgement do not recur.

Re: Re: Giving Due Credit

Does anyone know if the University made a decision on the return of the monies, or otherwise, as yet?
