Re: The Consultant Contract

The result of the ballot on the Consultant Contract is now history.

During the course of discussion for the Consultant Contract the Medical

Staff Committee at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham invited the BMA

to send a member of the CCSC to present the Contract proposals and Dr

Michael Goodman attended and presented the CCSC view on this. At the end

of the discussion we held a ballot by show of hands amongst the attending

members including Specialist Registrar members of the Junior Mess. There

was an overwhelming vote against the contract. Subsequent to this I wrote

to Dr Goodman and received a curt acknowledgment from an aide. I then wrote to Sir Anthony Grabham raising the concerns of the Queens Medical

Centre, Medical Staff Committee and received a response but again from a

deputed aide.

My concern is that the Officers of the British Medical Associations do not

respond properly and correctly to correspondence. I am concerned that as

representative of my Colleagues within the Queens Medical Centre I did not

receive the courtesy of a reply from the person to whom I had addressed my

correspondence on either occasion and wonder if it is the policy of the

British Medical Association for it's Officers not to respond to such

correspondence. I would be interested in the views of your readers.
