Gareth Richard Melville-Jones

My friend and colleague Dr Gareth Richard Melville-Jones, consultant histopathologist at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, died after a comparatively short illness on 2 January 2009. He was quirky, unusual, dedicated, and meticulous. He was probably one of the most intelligent men whom I have ever met, and I so valued and miss our endless coffee-time discussions considering the purpose of life, and more, and even some pathology!

None in his professional circle could but admire his diagnostic skill and professionalism, or equally fail to be influenced both by his humanity and by his just plain specialness. Fewer people, however, were aware of Gareth the inventor. Oh that he had buckled down and obtained patents for these! For fame and fortune may have followed from the Gareth patented Microscope Work Station, or even the Indestructible Dog Basket.
