Lawrence Guthrie Stewart

Lawrence Guthrie Stewart was born in Glasgow in 1928. He was orphaned at the age of 5 and spent some of his childhood on the Island of Colonsay, where he developed a love of the outdoors and the Gaelic language. He later moved to Bristol where he completed his education. After national service he graduated from Glasgow University and completed house jobs in Ayrshire. After a spell in obstetrics he entered general practice and was a partner in Johnstone and Linwood from 1959 until his retirement in 1992. He loved art and antiques and had a talent for photography. He was a founder member of the Johnstone Rotary Club, honorary president of the Kilbarchan Athletics Club, and enjoyed playing golf. He died on the 19 May 2009 with his family around him.
