Consultants and SAS doctors in England to get 2.5% pay rise

Consultants and specialty and associate specialist (SAS) doctors in England will receive a 2.5% pay rise backdated to April 2019, the government has said.

The announcement came after the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) published its 2019 recommendations for increases to doctors’ pay.1

In line with the DDRB’s recommendations the health and social care secretary, Matt Hancock, said that consultants would receive a 2.5% general uplift in pay backdated to April 2019.2 He said that the value of national and the old style local clinical excellence awards would be frozen.
