BMA members have expressed their support for a review into alleged sexism in the organisation and have called for its findings to be published quickly as possible.
Doctors at the BMA’s annual representative meeting in Belfast on 26 June voted in favour of a motion (box 1) that also raised concerns over the association’s handling of allegations of sexism and harassment.

That this meeting:
Believes the current BMA in-house complaints procedure is not fit for purpose
Believes that BMA members with valid complaints are actively discouraged from raising a concern due to the current complaint system
Believes that sexism and harassment are not seriously addressed by the BMA
Welcomes the announcement of an independent external investigation into recent complaints of sexism and harassment within the BMA, as long as the investigator has the confidence of the complainants
