NHS England tells CCGs to end postcode lottery over diabetes glucose devices

All clinical commissioning groups in England should make “flash” glucose monitoring devices available to patients with type 1 diabetes who meet the current clinical guidelines, NHS England has said.
The announcement means that more patients will be able to get the devices on prescription from their local GP or a specialist diabetes team from April 2019, regardless of where they live. Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre is currently the only such device available in the UK.
