TUC urges BMA to join forces on day of action to highlight crisis in NHS

The BMA has been urged to join forces with the Trades Union Congress for a national day of demonstration and strike action to support the junior doctors and the NHS.
The proposal was made at the BMA’s special representatives meeting in London on Tuesday 3 May and was backed by a series of speakers at the event.
At that meeting the BMA’s chair of council, Mark Porter, accused the government of being in “denial” over the financial crisis facing the NHS. Funding cuts, diminishing morale among doctors, and ever growing demand from patients were placing intolerable pressure on the medical workforce, he said, and he called on ministers to take immediate action.1
