Nortriptyline plus nicotine replacement versus placebo plus nicotine replacement for smoking cessation: pragmatic randomised controlled trial

A lapse of concentration during our editing of this paper by Paul Aveyard and colleagues led to an incorrect conclusion appearing in the abstract of the full (online) version (BMJ 2008;336, 27 Apr, doi: 10.1136/bmj.39545.852616.BE). The conclusion should have read: "Nortriptyline and nicotine replacement therapy are both effective medications in smoking cessation, but the effect of the combination is less than the sum of the parts, and there is no evidence that combination treatment is more effective than either alone."
