Breast feeding may not prevent high blood pressure in later life

The benefits of breast feeding on blood pressure may have been overestimated. In a systematic review Owen and colleagues (p 1189) found only a modest clinical effect in a large sample of patients. They conclude that the previously reported effect of breast feeding on high blood pressure was the result of underpowered studies. Breast feeding should nevertheless be encouraged for its other well known short term and long term benefits.
