Patients are key players in healthcare debates

Patients' preferences, evaluations, and accounts must not be overlooked in efforts to improve the quality and delivery of health care. In the third of three articles on improving the quality of health care, Wensing and Elwyn describe recommended measures and methods of incorporating patients' views about what they want from health services (p 877). They say that qualitative studies will help assess the validity of patients' views, and should be promoted. Including patients' views should have a positive impact on the processes and outcomes of health care.
